Residence in Other Countries or States

Frequently the Parties may initially reside in another state (or country), but one of the Parties relocates to California and initiates proceedings in a California Court.

We frequently represent Parties residing in another State or Country in California proceedings and help them determine if they can transfer the matter back to their State or Country or if they are forced to resolve the issue here in California.

We also assist in cases where one of the Parties lives in California, but the other Party has moved away to another State or Country.  We also then determine how to proceed in these circumstances to obtain a resolution of such cases.

Move Away Cases

When Parties have children and one Party wishes to relocate to another State or Country with the children, the Court refers to such cases as “move away” cases.  We have extensive experience handling these complex cases and assisting either the Parent wishing to stay in California or the Parent wishing to relocate.

Expert Witness Services in Foreign/Other State Courts

We have also been asked to provide expert testimony about California law in other States or Countries, where the Courts there needed further information about California law.
